A love letter to the lyrics that found me first.

From growing up listening to Fleetwood Mac to now finding pieces of myself in the lyrics of Taylor Swift and Gracie Abrams, music has always been a huge part of my life. My love for lyricism started around age nine—I remember writing down the lyrics to my favourite songs in a notebook and memorizing them. I didn’t know words could make me feel so much, even at that age.
Now, I find myself connecting with heavier themes—grief, heartbreak, growing pains, mental health—and realizing how lyrics can put language to feelings I haven’t fully figured out yet. I often say it feels like Taylor or Gracie are reading my mind when I relate so deeply to certain songs. I guess that’s what it’s all about—relating to each other, and figuring out life as we go. So here’s to the lyrics that found me first—the ones that stayed long after the music stopped.
